Meditation for Self Discovery

We will discover things about how we treat other people. We will also gain insights about ways we act and things we do to ourselves that aren’t in our best interests. Such behaviors include procrastination, fear of change, and inappropriate ways of reacting to things that happen to us. Meditation enables us to not only identify the behavior patterns but also to determine courses of action to take to overcome them.

Enjoy Your Diet

Another reason for a potential setback is that we have an attachment to a behavior that we’re doing. That behavior connects us to something that we find important, something in which we find safety and protection. We have to do psychological work to unravel ourselves from any attachments that don’t serve us.

Collection of Great Experiences at Juice Press

The Herringbone marble tile was the signature look of the brand. This store had a catherdral-like refrigerator. When we opened in this store in 2013/14 it was the main production facility for our bottled juices. It was only 1500 sq/ft and it was nearly impossible to manage the volume we were doing in those years. We eventually moved production to a 25,000 sq/ft facility in Long Island City, New York.

Veganism

A very important aspect of your own weight loss is your living a life of compassion. Compassion, love and other such qualities that are good enrich your chemistry in a way that very few substances can match. When your heart is filled with compassion, that means that your mind is pure. In order to fill your heart with compassion, your mind has to become more conscious and more awake. Compassion sets us free from our own suffering.

Eliminate Processed Foods. Refine Philopshy, Not Foods.

Hey friends, please think about the problems the things that are listed here cause. Processed and refined sugar are problematic. And it’s prevalent in cakes, candies, cookies, muffins, sodas, ice cream, energy drinks, sports drinks, and condiments such as ketchup and relish. Although no one should judge you or what you do with food, you can judge yourself in the context of your desire to improve.

Meditation is Just Another Obsession

A student came to a great master one day and asked, “Master, how many hours a day should I meditate?” And the master said, “How badly do you want to be happy?” The next day, the student came back to the master and said, “Master, I hear that this thing called enlightenment is a myth. I heard that searching for it could lead to the attachment of the search. Am I supposed to believe that enlightenment is real? And if it’s real, is it just going to come on its own just from me being a good person?” The master said, “Student, when you really concentrate on the wrong thing, you lose sight of the fact that we are here in the material body.”

Meditation Finally Realized

Consciousness may sometimes expand very very slowly. But make no mistake, the purpose of life is to become awake and enlightened. You can do this with acts of kindness, you can do this with practices of meditation, and you can do this by becoming aware of nonviolence.

I realized for myself that I had to decide what I believed in. I would stop totally relying on books, teachers, and lectures, and I would start searching within. Among things that really stuck with me were certain Buddhist teachings. The Buddha taught that enlightenment was an attainable thing if conditions were met and circumstances were right.

Meditation's Big Questions

This may seem like a tall order, or a typical thing that a spiritual person might say. But I think any person with a positive attitude would figure this out. And a positive attitude isn’t something that you buy in a store. You just make up your mind one day that whenever possible you’re going to shift your focus away from negative thoughts. From time to time you may have to come back to them to analyze problems, but solve those problems with a positive frame of mind. This is one of the primary purposes of meditation.

The Meditation of an Apple

It’s important to realize that meditation should be inextricably linked to everyday experiences. Pleasant experiences such as eating an apple can be special occasions, and even mundane chores and routines can become times of drawing yourself into higher levels of consciousness.

Open Letter to the Food Industry

Companies that have a high degree of concern for their ethical practices should rethink deceptive product labeling practices, in addition to ensuring that their products have good nutritional value. The innovative companies that serve truly healthy products might not rise to become the most financially successful in the short term. But I think that corporate food integrity could well be rewarded by customers’ dollars over time.

My Motivation to Write About Meditation

In my 20s I found meditation intriguing. I went to places that taught very docile yoga. Although I found the people and the movement really uplifting and truthful, I couldn’t stick with it because it didn’t have enough of the brutality that I would come to like. I needed more of an adrenaline rush in those years of my life; I was dependent on that. I needed to boost my identity, and I did not identify with being a Yogi—I identified with being a skydiver.

The Ego

From a philosophical perspective, the mysterious thing about the ego is that it really isn’t a form, or a shape, or an energy. It’s the sum total of all of your traits, something like a photo album; it’s a record of your journey.

The ingredients that go into making up the ego include energy fields and electrical circuitry. The important thing to understand about the ego is not so much what its purpose is or why it forms in the first place. It forms because of all the experiences that we have in this body and the fact that we have consciousness. These are the two main catalysts of the ego: Experiences and consciousness.

Meditation and Consciousness Levels

So the main benefit of tapping into the higher consciousness is to be able to quiet the mind a bit and relax it. In that state of being, I can listen to the higher callings that I have inside. I can organize my thoughts better. I can soothe my own troubles, even if they originated in my mind in this state of consciousness. I’m shifting my focus. I’m trying to find a greater meaning in the things that come free—like a sunset, the love I have for the people I know, and the love that they have for me.

Viewing Meditation as Entertaining

in order to actually develop a meditation practice you might have to trick yourself sometimes. We can become so distracted and so unwilling to practice meditation for a variety of reasons that we have to make it into a game. We have to make sure that we have a prize for meditating, such as relaxation and/or a clear understanding of truth.

Be Carful of the Word Addiction

Be very careful with the word “addiction.” It’s a title, and it can also be a trap. It definitely can be used to describe a problem, but it could also create one.

I am a stickler for using the right words to explain something, especially when I’m explaining something to myself. I prefer the word “dependency” because it’s less scary. We can make progress with helping people with a dependency on alcohol, drugs, or any other destructive substance or behavior. But just the sound of the word “addiction” sounds so negative and offensive that it takes positive energy away from solving the problem.

Meditation and Compassion

I can’t meditate on the universe and its structure because I don’t need that right now at the stage of life I’m in. I need to meditate on compassion. So right down here on this planet earth, wherever my feet are stuck in this mud, being stuck in the mud on purpose or not, I need to be a good earthling.

Meditation & Suffering

If we teach each other to find meditation, we can lessen some of the suffering in the world.

There are cycles of suffering. In my meditations I sometimes think of suffering in the physical world. Considering the possibilities of random things and chaos, it may always be difficult for some creatures. Those creatures will push suffering on to other things. Maybe this world can be classified as the realm of pain and suffering (for some).

Why Starting Meditation Is Hard (But Once You’re In It, It’s Wonderful and Easy).

Meditation is logic at work. The concept of it is so simple: Still the mind and end all the noise and static caused by the layers and layers of thoughts for that short time. When I meditate, I can tune in to deeper levels of my innate knowledge. I can tune into something greater than my innate knowledge. Something timeless and without boundaries. I now can grasp ‘it’ and it no longer scares me. I’m no longer bored by it. I am not restless. Whatever power and beauty that is within the depths of our consciousness is free for the taking to anyone who reaches in for it.

The Interest in Processed Foods

Poor eating practices and impure and adulterated food cause incalculable damage to the human race. Those things are a primary factor in deaths caused by a myriad of diseases and are linked to mass starvation. These statements may seem incredibly insensitive and hard to accept, and I don’t take pleasure in writing them. But unfortunately they’re true. Both as individuals and as a society we must change how we produce, process, and consume food products. We ignore the information about our misdeeds regarding these practices at our own peril and the peril of others.

Where Should Your Calories Come From?

The majority, if not all, of our calories should come from plants in the form of fruits, vegetables, nuts, sprouts, seeds, roots, herbs, spices, fungi, etc. There are more than 20,000 edible plants that contain every nutrient we need. If a nutrient is not available from the plant kingdom, the human body does not need it.

Bad Sugar

There’s a difference, though, when you eat an apple, banana, orange, or plum. The sugar in the food isn’t concentrated, and the food is pure. It contains vitamins, minerals, water, antioxidants and other substances that are vital to the immune system. You can’t live without those compounds. And if you stay away from fruit and starchy vegetables, you’ll also be depriving healthy cells of needed sugar for energy, which they need to perform their various functions.

What are we chasing?

Are we chasing material possessions because we really think that we need them? Probably yes, at least in the moment. Are we chasing bad chemistry in our bodies and trying to make it feel better? Sometimes. Are we chasing cravings that need to be answered? Oftentimes.

Deep deep inside, aren’t we all just chasing the connection to a feeling of wholeness? That feeling was lost when the umbilical cord was cut. And the memory is there. Each and every day that followed, we either kept the connection going or we looked for a distraction.

Meditation: Chase The Light

An introductory meditation practice starts bright and early in the morning: Right when you wake up, even before you open your eyes and possibly get distracted by something.

Lay flat on your back in bed with your eyes closed and begin conscious deep breathing. Try to get through five cycles without being distracted, drawing in the maximum breath and exhaling everything. Focus your attention to the center of your forehead. Imagine a bright light being right there if you can’t see this light

Addiction

Addiction is one end of a spectrum of possible ways of thinking. The other end of that spectrum is quite simply pure awakening, enlightenment, clarity, and complete happiness. This doesn’t mean that one has to achieve a perfect state of mind in order to be free of addiction. But when you understand the spectrum from addiction to enlightenment, then you can determine where you are on the scale.

I am supportive of whatever you feel you need to do to get your calories. My job is to just tell you the facts about food as I understand them.

Some people declare themselves to be meat eaters but are cautious regarding their dietary choices. Some detail about that is warranted, and I intend to address it in other articles, but this short article is only regarding processed meat products.

Top 30 Things To Improve Health

#3. Eliminate all processed foods from your diet. Whether you do so gradually at your own pace or go “cold turkey” and do it within a day or so is your decision. Getting the toxic food components and additives out of your system will yield health benefits very quickly.

#14. Apologize often. Almost every day of our lives we have an opportunity to express an apology to someone. It’s an act that shows strength of character and courage on our part and gives us a good reason to respect ourselves.

The Express Train to Enlightenment

The other way to wake up your mind is to meditate, concentrate, and focus on the idea that everything in the material universe is constantly changing. Everything in the material world that is born must die, and everything that is created must come to an end. Focus on that until you see the light.

What makes a person more prepared and ready to practice a faith along these lines with devotion in order to see divine light? The first thing is having to clear away all the wreckage and the problems that prevent you from getting to the state that you are seeking.

Understanding Yoga

In movements during yoga exercises, it’s necessary to stay with all the feelings and sensations in the body, including pain. There are different types of pain in our body. Some of it is directly caused by emotions and is held within us. Feelings get trapped in areas of the body and cause tension. Sometimes daily activities, improper diet, and stimulation cause us to have very narrow breathing. Concentrating on breathing during yoga (as well as other forms of exercise) will improve that situation.

What if I Hate Vegetables More Than Anything Else?

When I was involved with my company (Juice Press) for approximately 10 years, I taught hundreds, if not thousands of people throughout New York City and other major cities to enjoy the delicious taste of fresh cold, pressed organic juice. When you drink juice you get a lot of produce without having to gag on it, and it tastes great, but only if it’s very cold. (If you drank juice from really dark, leafy green vegetables at room temperature you probably wouldn't like it.) That’s the beauty of cold-pressed juice—the cold temperature makes it taste great, like a smoothie. Certain foods taste better at different temperatures; I think pasta only tastes good when it’s warm.

Providing that you’re not eating processed food, on a plant-based diet you won’t become overweight, lethargic, or riddled with symptoms of a multitude of diseases. On a plant-based diet you will become injured less. On a plant-based diet your pH balance will be exactly where it’s supposed to be; you'll have to exert less energy keeping homeostasis (body chemistry balance). On a plant-based diet you will not succumb to inflammatory illnesses such as arthritis as easily. On a plant-based diet you will avoid diabetes, and if you have diabetes already then your dependency on insulin will be much lower.

You're a Pig!

So what is the ideal diet for humans? Should we be eating bananas all day like our ape cousins do? Should we be ravenous meat eaters like the big cats? Or are we designed to graze like cattle? None of the above.

We are actually similar to pigs, bears, and piranhas. We are omnivores. However, we have longer digestive transit times than most other animals. That’s why flesh foods are not ideal for us: Flesh foods easily ferment or rot in our digestive system because they stay there too long.

What The Heck Am I Supposed To Eat?

It’s very important that you understand that I do not believe in prescribing a particular diet. There’s no such thing as a “one size fits all” diet; there are a lot of considerations. The general rule is that you probably can afford to eat somewhere between 1820 and 2500 calories per day depending on your activity level, your age, your size, and what particular food items are in your diet. A person who is eating a plant-based diet could probably consume more calories than a person on a high-protein diet. A person who abstained from processed foods could also probably eat more calories.

The Beginning of Your Self Improvement Journey

The discipline of taking care of the tedious tasks of life can be applied to all other aspects of life—this is the nature of self-improvement. I define self-improvement as taking on the difficult tasks that we need to manage by ourselves for ourselves every day of our life until they become habits.

Self-improvement is also a measurement of personal success. Personal success has nothing to do with things such as how much money you’ve acquired, how many books you’ve published, and the like. Personal success is measured by how well a person can improve themselves and address their own specific challenges.

Primary Addictions

Processed sugar is extremely addictive. This type of sugar is different from the sugar that is naturally found in fruits and starchy vegetables. Natural sugar is not concentrated, and it relates to your chemistry in a way that makes your body feel satisfied. You may crave fruit, but the craving will not be overwhelming. The craving for processed sugar can be extremely overwhelming, though.

When it is in a concentrated form, protein is addictive as well. The body needs protein, but not a great deal of it. In flesh foods, protein is concentrated to a degree that is beyond what is needed by the body. For that reason, plant foods are a preferable source of protein.

Food, Diet, Meditation

Many ancient people understood the nature of reality as being spiritual by definition. Regarding every activity in life as being a spiritual practice, they did not see a need to define things as being either ‘spiritual’ or ‘unspiritual,’ as many do today.

Yet getting rid of the dichotomy between ‘spiritual’ and ‘unspiritual’ doesn’t mean that there’s no such thing as good and evil. Harming others is antithetical to life. I make a judgment about that, as do all people who recognize bad behavior and harmful practices. But I do intend to judge less and judge correctly as I go through life, and I want to use judgment only as a method of understanding the world around me more clearly.

What are Processed Foods?

In a completely literal sense, processed food in its simplest form begins with food that you are chewing in your mouth. You are processing it, technically – by masticating it, you’re changing it from one form to another.

Next is a short list of some of the most dangerous processed foods that are now on the market:

  • Sodas: In addition to having no nutritional value and having an outrageous amount of sugar, they use high-fructose corn syrup, which is damaging to the liver. Many diet sodas contain carcinogenic sweeteners that perpetuate cravings for real sugar as well.
  • White bread: Contains a great deal of processed sugar for added flavor, is stripped of all nutritional value, and uses chemicals such as benzoyl peroxide that can cause headaches, nausea, and DNA damage.
  • Hot Dogs and Processed Meats: These have sodium nitrate and other dangerous compounds in them and are linked to stomach and bowel cancers as well as high blood pressure and heart disease.
  • Cookies and Cakes: Most of these products can contain up to 80 ingredients, most of which are harmful additives such as preservatives and artificial coloring. Most also contain partially hydrogenated oils with trans fats, which are associated with diabetes, coronary heart disease, and Alzheimer’s.
  • Quick Noodle Soups: One package can contain up to 2,000 milligrams of sodium, greatly exceeding the American Heart Association’s recommended daily limit of 1,500 milligrams per day. This puts frequent users at risk of high blood pressure or a stroke
  • Microwave Popcorn: One serving can contain 270 milligrams of sodium and 8 grams of fat; the American Heart Association recommends a maximum of 11 to 13 grams of saturated fat per day. The microwaveable bags contain chemicals such as perfluoroalkyls, linked to poor semen quality and impaired kidney function.
  • Frozen Dinners: They have outrageously high contents of sugar, fat, and sodium, which can raise blood pressure and lead to heart and weight problems. The most popular of these products contain between 1,100 to 1,300 milligrams of sodium.
  • Fast Food Iced Tea: It contains propylene glycol alginate, which is also used in de-icer and antifreeze automotive products. It can cause neurotoxic and cardiovascular problems.
  • Candy: Besides excess processed sugar, candy contains many very toxic and carcinogenic chemicals used for artificial coloring and other purposes; they include Yellow Number 5 and Yellow Number 6, linked to Attention Deficit Disorder in children.
  • Sugary Cereal: In addition to incredibly high sugar content, it contains chemicals such as butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) and that are believed to be carcinogenic. (Those ingredients are banned in many European countries.)
  • Energy Drinks: They contain excessive amounts of sucrose, glucose, and caffeine, as well as toxic artificial sweeteners. One study found that they are more corrosive to teeth than sodas.
  • Ice Cream: Most varieties contain artificial coloring, soybean oil, and titanium dioxide (a chemical used in sunblock), as well as a tremendous amount of sugar.
  • Breakfast Biscuits: These are very high in trans fats that can cause heart disease. Some products that are labeled as having 0 grams of trans fats contain hydrogenated soybean oil, meaning that traces of fat actually are in the products.
  • Macaroni and Cheese: It contains Yellow Number 5 and Yellow Number 6 and coal tar (which is used to seal floors and kill bugs in shampoo). Those additives can cause ADHD and allergies, and they are suspected to be linked to cancer as well.
  • Margarine: Although it’s considered by some to be a better choice than butter, it contains trans fats that lowers good cholesterol levels and is linked to heart disease. It is high in omega-6 fatty acids that cause a chemical imbalance between omega-3 and omega-6 acids, potentially causing bodily inflammation. Dangerous chemicals are used in its production as well.
  • Bacon: This is probably the worst of the processed meats available. It tastes delicious primarily because it’s extremely high in saturated fats (that cause obesity and heart disease). The preservatives that are used, including nitrates, are considered to be carcinogenic.
  • Instant Ramen: Although it’s a popular product among those on tight budgets, it’s incredibly unhealthy and has almost no nutritional value. A typical portion of it has about 1,500 milligrams of sodium and 14 grams of fat, and it also contains additives such as MSG (monosodium glutamate).
  • Coffee Creamer: It’s loaded with trans fats and the chemical whitening product called titanium dioxide, which may cause liver and tissue damage. The trans fats in the hydrogenated oil used can cause diminished memory in adults.
  • Baked Goods: These use potassium bromide, also known as bromated flour, to speed up cooking processes. It’s found in wraps, bagel chips, and commercial bread crumbs. The dangerous chemical used is believed to cause cell deterioration and kidney failure and has been banned in Canada and Europe.
  • Jam and Jelly: Besides being loaded with sugar, they contain high quantities of pectin. Pectin is toxic because it attaches to good, healthy antioxidants including lycopene, beta-carotene and others, causing them to be eliminated from your system before they can provide health benefits to your body.
  • Chewing Gum: Although it’s not a food as such, It contains butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) which is released into your body when you chew the product. BHA has been linked to impairment of blood clotting and to tumor growth as well. BHA has been banned from use in food products in many European countries and Japan.

Get Out of Diet Fads and Into Real Solutions

Certain behaviors stop serving us at certain points in our lives; we have to recognize this and then we have to create processes for letting such detrimental behaviors go. This is not easy, and we avoid doing it - we prefer quick fix, simple solutions. Many who create fad diets recognize this, and this is why fad diets are popular and profitable for their creators.

Please understand that I’m not trying to sell a particular diet. I just have a strong desire to share many truths I’ve learned about healthy dietary practices – things I’ve successfully applied to my own life and things that have been of tremendous benefit to many others.

The first step to a healthy dietary lifestyle destination is ‘soul searching.’ We have to recognize unhealthy dietary practices and patterns. We have to realize that they are disrupting our body chemistry and might be leading us toward disorders or diseases.

The Ego & Yoga

Yoga meditation is different than yoga exercise; exercise does not require our complete focus. If your yoga practice is too easy for you, it doesn’t require complete focus either. but Yoga encourages this behavior. The idea is to practice yoga that is challenging enough to necessitate your single-minded focus. You train your mind to be still and be quiet, to follow the breath or perhaps make an adjustment in the posture.

The Big Breakthrough With Meditation

The biggest breakthrough I had regarding understanding meditation came when I had the revelation that meditation was not a spiritual practice - rather it was a mental practice. As a spiritual practice it always seemed abstract and very exclusive. No matter how much I would pretend to the world that I was spiritual, I had no idea what that concept meant. Slowly I began to have a breakthrough when I realized that the word ‘spiritual’ had no meaning to me other than in reference to ghosts and apparitions.

Anxiety & Fear

It’s a very subtle vibration of nervousness anxiety and fear. It’s a cocktail made up of pieces of low self-esteem fragments of trauma. Experiences that are unsettled, words spoken to us as children, perhaps a few humiliating experiences; these things are mounted one by one on top of each other to create a puzzle in our overall personality that is guided by fears and anxieties.

Meditation is Easy

Meditation is a fancy word for the act of controlling where the consciousness is flowing. It isn’t a means to close in on a problem that you’d like to solve and working it out in your mind. If you’re doing that, you’re in contemplation. In fact, you may be in an obsessive thought, which is not meditation. Meditation isn’t going on a space journey where you allow yourself to wander throughout the cosmos and wonder about the existence of God. This is a contemplative state of mind, which is not the true focus and meaning of meditation.

The Secret to Self-Help

There are two epic secrets to improving one’s life. One of them is to train yourself to take baby steps in everything that you do in connection with self-help. For example, if a book is really thick and it’s promising to teach you how to liberate yourself from pain and suffering and you keep that book on your shelf for 10 years, think about the irony in that.

Fred Bisci my Food Mentor

It’s my strong belief that the medical industry fails people by providing insufficient or misleading information regarding lifestyle and nutrition. Even organizations focused on producing or selling nutrition products often people tell people what they want to hear rather than what they need to hear. Seldom do you hear of governmental agencies responsible for the health and well-being of US citizens tell us that eliminating processed food should be the very first thing we should do to improve our physical health. Even the so-called ‘food pyramid model’ is based more on ancient tradition than on science.

Positive Thinking

If you can gauge your state of mind right now, where is it sitting? If it feels neutral, you are likely ambivalent (having mixed feelings or contradictory ideas about something or someone). Ambivalence often slides into negativity, so beware.

The thinker in you, that is responsible for choices, needs a method to pump your state of mind back up the mental hill.

Like water, thoughts oftentimes seek the lowest ground, and it’s the thinkers role to lift them back to higher ground. How we do this is the LIFE PRACTICE.

The juicing industry and advocates have an agenda and the people with medical backgrounds or nutrition backgrounds that don’t like juicing, also have an agenda. I may venture and guess that 97% of the world still does not rely on fresh juice as an important supplement in their regular diet.

Juice Fasting

Including raw juices in our daily diets is a fabulous antidote to toxins we encounter. Green juices neutralize acids and all raw juices make it easier to maintain blood alkalization. The main benefit of drinking raw juice is that if it helps us skip one or more crappy meals a day, we’re 1,000 times better off! We recommend drinking as much juice as possible. Drinking juice and maintaining a sensible diet that excludes processed food is a critical step toward optimal health.

Atomic Elements and Their Best Plant Sources

Fruits and vegetables must be ripe for the body to digest them properly. pasteurization of juice and food is a disaster—it alters their nutritional value and vital forces. chewing, blending, or lightly steaming fruits and vegetables releases the nutrients within the encapsulated insoluble fibers. Wow,
I sound smart.

Produce is rushed to harvest. non-organic farming practices that use a litany of chemicals are changing our chemistry. Combined with a number of dietary mistakes we generally make, we are likely to be nutrient deficient.

"Cytokine Storm" (Inflammation Response)

At the time of this writing (Sept. 12, 2020), worldwide COVID-19 cases have been reported to be over 29+ million with 929+ thousand deaths.  These are incredibly high numbers compared to the more common influenza virus.

Many believe that "cytokine storm" is one of the main causes of fatal outcomes from the disease. The cytokine storm is a significant increase in inflammatory molecules in the course of the body's immune response upon encountering a virus.
